EXTRACTIONS
Give yourself time to heal
After a dental extraction it generally takes six weeks for the socket to heal properly. However, for medically compromised patients and smokers it may take longer than six weeks.
Here are a few tips:
Begin brushing gently around the extraction site the next day.
Start rinsing gently with a warm salt water (1/2 teaspoon salt in a cup of water) mouthwash 24 hours after the extraction. Do this after meals and before bed.
Do not smoke for minimum 72 hours. Smoking will cause a dry socket and extreme pain. Please wait as long as possible before smoking.
Do not drink alcohol after the extraction. Alcohol will cause greater bleeding.
When bleeding occurs apply pressure to the socket and sit still for at least 10 minutes.
Do not exercise heavily for 48 hours.
Please contact our clinic if you are experiencing any problems.
