Generously lending a helping hand

The Kurri team have again been lending a helping hand to those in need.

A big thank you to our staff who generously donated to “its in the bag” - Share the dignity who help women at risk and homelessness in Australia.

Dr David Ward and The Happy Tooth generously donated a big box of dental supplies that were given to the Animal Rescue Cooperative (ARC) to assist in the medical aid and rehabilitation of native wildlife injured in the recent bush fires.

Both the Weston Bears Soccer club and the Kurri/Weston district Cricket club were issued with Happy Tooth water bottles for the 2019/2020 sporting season. The water bottles assists in the promotion of good oral hygiene, drinking of water and physical activity for overall better general health.

Supporting the local community

It has been a busy few months for the team

The team have been busy not only doing teeth this month….

We have been out and about in the community at Kurri Kurri Public School’s careers day and at The Town of Hearts art show!

As we have for the last four years, we continue to support Jordy Can do Errands for you by providing him with odd jobs around the practice. Jordy is here every Monday, be sure to say Hi to him if you see him.

One of our Patients Lilly visited a community center who assist the homeless as part of her community out reach program she is participating in at her school. She has made personal hygiene bags and we have proudly donated some floss and toothpaste. Good on you Lilly!

If you have or know of a program that is looking for support, please get in contact with us.

Cerec - One Visit Dentistry

We have a new toy!

The Happy Tooth is always trying to keep up with modern technology and have upgraded one of our machines to the Cerec Milling Unit. If you have had a crown made in the past, you would know the long process of having to have a bulky temporary in for up to 2 weeks while your crown is being designed in a lab off site. The Happy Tooth Kurri offers SINGLE VISIT crowns!! What does this mean? It means we can scan, design and mill your crown all in house on the same day, so there is no need for a second appointment. You will walk in for your preparation and walk out with a brand new crown! If this is something that interest you, please call the surgery on (02) 4936 2011 to arrange a consultation.

Building trust at PULSE Rock climbing

Team members learning the ropes

Team members learning the ropes

Smiles all round at Team Building night

The team had a wonderful night out at Pulse climbing in Newcastle.

We all learned new skills and were put out of our comfort zone in terms of height and control.

Our communication was put to the test when we were given goggles and eye wear that was blacked out. (meaning we could not see)

If you are looking of a fun day out or some where to take the family on a rainy day, we would defiantly recommend Pulse Rock climbing for all ages.

Check out their web site for session times and pricing: https://pulseclimbing.com.au/newcastle/

Avoid Traumatic Dental Injury - Wear a Mouthguard

Staff members: Paige, Hayley and Carol with Dr Brett Dorney

Staff members: Paige, Hayley and Carol with Dr Brett Dorney

Mouthguards can protect you from some serious sporting injuries, such as broken jaws, fractured, cracked or knocked-out teeth, cut lips and tongues. You can play any sport with a mouthguard, you don’t just have to be playing obvious contact sports like rugby union, rugby league, AFL, hockey, etc to sustain those kinds of injuries. Even non-contact sports like cricket, basketball and even netball, carry a real risk of accidental collision, resulting in dental trauma.

If you have braces it is highly recommended to wear a mouthguard to avoid grazes or serious injuries to the lip, cheek and tongue.

Our staff have recently completed a training course – Modern Mouthguards presented by Dr Brett Dorney. This hands on practical course will ensure that your mouthguard is made with special moulding techniques to minimise impact.

About Dr Dorney;

Dr Dorney has been awarded fellowships from The Academy for Sports Dentistry, the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International and has also been lecturing for 20 years in Australia and overseas on Prevention and Treatment of Traumatic Dental Injuries.
